Sunday

Sketch-a-Day 89/365: The Anti-Bunny Cometh!

Be extra careful when reaching for those Easter Eggs while on the hunt today kiddies! Make sure you aren't reaching for one left by the nefarious ANTI-BUNNY in his diabolic quest to spoil Easter.

Sketch date: 3/30/13

Saturday

Sketch-a-Day 88/365: More Doctor Ultra

I think I'm on to something here with the general look for Doctor Ultra. The head gear needs serious work though. Did much better on the previous sketch and wish I had it in front of me to reference while working on this one.

Sketch date: 3/29/13

Friday

Sketch-a-Day 87/365: Doctor Ultra- Getting There

Now this is a bit more like it. A bit more evil scientist looking than prior designs. Evil to the point of being his own test subject on more than one occasion. Doctor Ultra may be starting to take form here finally.

Sketch date: 3/28/13

Thursday

Sketch-a-Day 86/365: Me Doktr

Playing around with head designs for Doctor Ultra. This one is a bit too lumbering neanderthal brutish for the character in mind so it's back to the drawing board!

Sketch date: 3/27/13

Tuesday

Sketch-a-Day 85/365: Doctor Ultra-Take 2

Second attempt at the Doctor Ultra character. Still needs work on getting to what I want for a look. I think I'll get some head designs out of the way before doing much else. This is a little too Red Skull like for me though.

Sketch date: 3/26/13

Monday

Sketch-a-Day 84/365: The Doctor Will See You Now

One of a few ideas for the previously unnamed villain of my Azure Fox project. Well, not totally unnamed, previously just referred to as The Doctor. Not wanting to besmirch the good name of THE Doctor among Who fans, he is now Doctor Ultra.

Sketch date: 3/25/13

Sunday

Sketch-a-Day 83/365: WWBRD

Sunday night sketch of Buck Rogers of the 25th Century (50's version). Remember kids, any time you're faced with a difficult decision and all seems lost; just take a moment and ask yourself...
"What Would Buck Rogers Do?"

Sketch date: 3/24/13

Sketch-a-Day 82/365: Alien Creature

A quick design of an alien creature for Saturday's sketch. Kind of fish inspired it would seem. Enjoy!

Sketch date: 3/23/13

Saturday

Sketch-a-Day 81/365: Spaaaaace Ghoooost!

Another DSC from Outcast Studios this week; wow, that's like three I've done. I think its a new record. Friday's challenge was to draw our beloved space faring superhero from the 60's, SPACE GHOST.

Sketch date: 3/22/13

Friday

Sketch-a-Day 80/365: Space Man

Keeping with the spaceman trend of this week, with the exception of one sketch, we have this martiany type space suit guy thing. So many different things thrown together in this, including a few ideas from the Marvin Redo, though it all came together fairly nice.

Sketch date: 3/21/13

Thursday

Marvin the Martian Redo

After I completed the Daily Sketch Challenge of Marvin the Martian, and realized how much I struggle with cartooning, I had a plethora of ideas in my head for how Marvin would look outside of the Looney Tunes universe. Here's some of what the visions I had. Hope you enjoy them!

Sketch-a-Day 79/365: Isn't it Delightful?

Sketch challenge issued of drawing Marvin the Martian. Challenge accepted, though I have to admit there was some HEAVY referencing involved. Cartooning has always eluded my grasp any other way. I don't hate it...it's just not my thing.

Sketch date: 3/20/13

Wednesday

Sketch-a-Day 78/365: Idle Hands

Well, hand at any rate...singular. I was drawing a blank (no pun intended) on what to do for Tuesday's sketch and after erasing what I had for the fourth time...I know I know, that defeats the whole "sketching" aspect but it's become sort of a ritual...anyway, after the fourth do-over and still not having a clue what I wanted to do I decided to just draw what I saw. I happened to be looking at my hand over my tablet of paper poised for sketching action which is exactly what I sketched. Kind of convenient since my model may have moved in physical location but retained the main pose the entire time. Enjoy Tuesday's hand study!

Tuesday

Sketch-a-Day 77/365: Ad Infinitum et Ultra

Fresh out of 80's Week and once again turning to Outcast Studios for their Daily Sketch Challenge offering. Monday's challenge is that of the the fearless Space Ranger himself, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command!

Sketch date: 3/18/13

Sunday

Sketch-a-Day 76/365: Warrior Goddess

Bringing 80's Week to a close here on The Sketch Side; hailing all the way from Eternia, comes the Warrior Goddess herself, Teela. I don't think there's much else that needs to be said about this Captain of the Royal Guard. I hope you enjoyed this week long flashback as much as I did!

Sketch date: 3/17/13

Happy Birthday, Ava!

A special Sunday bonus sketch for a birthday request. Little Miss Ava asked for a butterfly and flowers for her birthday and since I couldn't find anything 80's themed with butterflies she gets a sketch dedicated just for her! Happy 5th birthday little lady!

Sketch-a-Day 75/365: Give Me the Might!

"Moonstar of Limbo, Give me the might, the muscle, the menace, of MON*STAR!"
Today's sketch is brought to you by the Moonstar of Limbo and features Mon*Star, the main antagonist from Silverhawks. Silverhawks was on the air for all of 3 months in 1986 and also had a comic book series that lasted a whopping 7 issues!

Sketch date: 3/16/13

Saturday

Sketch-a-Day 74/365: Hooooooooo!

Thunder. Thunder. ThunderCats! HOOOOOOOOOO! This awesome 80's property was revived in comic book form in 2000 and again as a second animated series in 2012 making it, in my most humble of opinions, THE flagship property of the 80's. "But what about G.I. Joe", you ask? Granted the Joe's have endured much longer and more successfully than the Cats with SEVERAL revivals, however I don't consider the Joe's an 80's property. Granted their pop culture popularity stems from the Real American Hero property line, however G.I. Joe is actually a product of the 60's with the 80's cartoon and toy line being a revival from that. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Getting back to the ThunderCats... today's sketch is of the original nunchaku wielding bad-ass himself...Panthro! Hope you enjoy!

Sketch Date: 3/15/13

Thursday

Sketch-a-Day 73/365: D'Compose

Hailing from the freakiest kid's show of the 80's comes D'Compose from Inhumanoids. The best part of the 80's is the total lack of caring towards any consistency. I've seen D'Compose sporting anywhere from 4 to 6 taloned digits on his hands in the cartoon and comic, yet the toy appears to only have 3 thick claws. I think the only constant required was the exposed rib-cage and skull like head.

Wednesday

Sketch-a-Day 72/365: Razorback

The 80's Throwback just keeps rolling on with today's sketch of Razorback from the cartoon (and brief comic book) Spiral Zone! While the show lasted all of three months it was possibly one of my top favorites to watch because the vehicles were just beyond cool. I've always wanted a monocycle solely because of this show. The Black Widows (i.e. bad guys) had some pretty freakishly sweet modes of transportation too. Ah memories... but I digress, let's get on to the sketch!

Tuesday

Sketch-a-Day 71/365: Negative Woman

This sketch goes back...way back. Back all the way to the 80's with DC's Negative Woman from Doom Patrol II! Much cooler and powerful than her predecessor, Negative Man. Enjoy!

Monday

Sketch-a-Day 70/365: War Duke (updated)

(UPDATE: better scan of image uploaded)

Follow up Dragon Week with a Dungeons & Dragons themed sketch? Yes please! Stopping by the Outcast Studios Daily Sketch Challenge I was elated to find the subject was War Duke. Not only was I an avid gamer in my younger days but I also grew up on the short lived cartoon series and my older brother actually had the War Duke action figure (with Battle-Matic action!) that I eventually inherited. Enough reminiscing and on to the sketch! Comments and crits are welcome as always too. Enjoy!

Sunday

Sketch-a-Day 69/365: Dragon Week Finale

Bringing Dragon Week to a close with a the king of all undead...the feared and powerful Dracolich! Which conveniently matches up with a Sunday zombie theme in appearance since The Walking Dead is on. Hope you enjoy!

Saturday

Sketch-a-Day 68/365: Dragon Week Day 6

Saturday's entry for Dragon Week explores the general body style of the dragons I'll be using along with a wing study. I need to draw smaller, or scale up again on paper size. I keep running out of room with these creatures. Enjoy!

Friday

Sketch-a-Day 67/365: Dragon Week Day 5

Its Friday and Day 5 of Dragon Week, which means...yup, you guessed it! Another Dragon! Enjoy and leave some comments!

Thursday

Sketch-a-Day 66/365: Dragon Week Day 4

Fourth entry for Dragon Week. I'm very happy with the choice in wing structure that I've finally settled on. Now all I have to do is develop some individually identifiable dragons. Comments are always welcome, so let's hear them!

Wednesday

Sketch-a-Day 65/365: Dragon Week Day 3

Ever since I started this project of mine (the one that involves the need to improve on dragons, not the sketch-a-day one) I was never able to determine just how I wanted my dragons to look with their anatomy. while doing an image search to get some ideas I came across an image like tonight's sketch and I have to say...I'm certainly digging the realistic look of the forearms being the wings. Something similar to birds and bats as opposed to the more classic dragon image of a quadruped with wings sprouting from the shoulders of the forelimbs like I've been drawing this week. While this may force a few revisions of actions in the scripts I have outlined, it's a much more pleasing form in my opinion and worth the minor re-writes. Let me know what you think!

Tuesday

Dragon Week Bonus Dragons!

This is a first for The Sketch Side...more than one sketch done on a day! Imagine that...it's possible to do more than one, who'd of thunk it o_O

Monday and Tuesday each had a bonus dragon sketched out after the Sketch-a-Day dragon was finished and here they are. Enjoy and as always feel free to comment!

Sketch-a-Day 64/365: Dragon Week Day 2

Dragon Week continues with a second entry to the sketch blog. Still not hitting on what I want for the direction I want to go but there's plenty of days left this week.

Monday

Sketch-a-Day 63/365: Dragon Week Begins!

Welcome to the first official dragon sketch of Dragon Week! I admit this one did not go the way I intended. As I mentioned before I'm torn between what to do to make my dragons...well, MY dragons. Never-the-less, I'm happy with the final image. I hope you are too and as always all comments are welcome so let's hear them!

Sunday

Sketch-a-Day 62/365: Drag-on Style

There's nothing original about the base concept of dragons, though I do need to develop my own style of dragon for what I'm working on. I'm torn between leaning towards more humanoid physiology and body language or sticking with the more classic bestial behemoth. This was the final pre-Dragon Week dragon before the real deal gets underway.

Saturday

Friday

Sketch-a-Day 60/365: Oh Archiekins...

That Archie Andrews had all the luck I tell ya. Tonight's sketch of the lovely Veronica Lodge from the Archie Comics comic book series was requested by my good friend Ron. See, Ron! I didn't forget about ya!
