Sketch-a-Day 31/365: Who Wants a Hug?

I've seen better days, I've been star of many plays.
I've seen better days, and the bottom drops out.

Wednesday

Sketch-a-Day 30/365: What the...?!

Interesting what creeps up from the shadows of the mind sometimes. Or maybe I spent too many nights eating chili nachos, D&D campaigning, and playing Super Mario Bros 3 as a kid. Damn those Piranha Plants!

Sketch-a-Day 29/365: Finding Your Face

Trying some different faces for a character I've been working on. Finding the right one is everything. Which is your favorite?

Monday

Sketch-a-Day 28/365: Hero 2

Random hero creation though I have an annoying feeling my memory went and grabbed something I have seen before. So for now he shall remain nameless.

Wednesday

Sketch-a-Day 23/365: Get off'a my lawn!

Face it, when you were playing around your neighborhood as kid and old man Jenkins came out in a bath towel yelling like a mad man because you trampled his begonias...this is exactly what you saw screaming at you.

Sketch-a-Day 21/365: Return of The DarkMind

"You can do it... C'mon just ONE more time!"

The legendary trainer (and author of How to Train Your Sidekick) encourages yet another victi--er, trainee to keep pushing forward through the pain.

Sketch-a-Day 20/365: Three's company

Come and knock on our door..... We've been waiting for you...... Where the kisses are hers and hers and his, Three's company too.

Ahem... sorry... well it's the conclusion of Week 3, and since there didn't seem to be too much interest in Week 2's cheesecake ender, I decided to go the Hydra route.

Three heads. Three weeks...enjoy!

Saturday

Sketch-a-Day 19/365: Can we keep him?

Playing around with dragon design ideas. I kind of like him despite being a bit non-traditional with the lack of the elongated neck that is so common in many depictions. I think it's something to keep toying with.

Oh, and don't mind the roughness. This is a sketch blog so some rough drawing will be more rough than others from time to time.

Sketch-a-Day 17/365: Geisha

"Hey Dad, how about you draw a Geisha?" said my daughter.  I thought, "Well damn, it's just a chick in a big robe right?"

RIGHT?!?!

No. A Geisha it turns out, is 90% hair and face. Outside of that...piece of cake!

Sketch-a-Day 16/365: Deadly threads

Today's sketch is inspired/challenged by my daughter with a conversation we had at dinner. Long story short, she is supposed to draw her sweatshirt sleeves eating her, and I had to draw my sweatshirt from deviantArt eating me. While no longer available to link to, my hoodie has fangs on the chest with deviantArt lettered on the teeth and this is my sweatshirt trying to eat me. Thanks kiddo!

Sketch-a-Day 14/365: Mech character design

This is a character design from about...a year and a half ago, which some visual aspects found their way into sketch 3/365. I guess I was recalling the idea at the time and toying with it. Later I found the original quarter sheet 'scribbled in pen while at work' concept. The original is much more bulky though at the moment I'm digging the trimmer 'mech' look. All I can do is toy around with it.

This is also the start of the larger 9x12 sketch book as opposed to the 5.5x8.5 book. what a difference work space makes!

Sketch-a-Day 13/365: Deuces

Woohoo! 2 weeks complete! See? 1...2...

Week two winding down

As week two of my Sketch-a-Day 20-XIII attempt comes closer to being over I can honestly reflect on how much I've surprised myself making it this far. Not only have I stuck with it but I have 12 sketches, as of this entry, which contain NO intellectual property owned by any third party.

WOW.

Using existing characters is usually a fairly safe and expected route for making quick sketches. Its something you're familiar with and have a decent image burned into your memory to call upon. There's little planning involved beyond the pose. While I'm fairly confident there will be character sketches of big name heroes and villains popping up in my sketches, I've impressed myself with having 12 original creations in 12 days.

Starting Monday I'll be switching sketchbooks. I started out in a 5x8 book thinking "hey its just quick little doodles and it's been a while." Plus the consideration that I was accustom to sketching ideas on quarter sheets of 8.5x11 paper made me feel the small sketchbook would be plenty of space. Boy, was I wrong. With each sketch attempt I realized more and more that I need more space and gosh darn it; MORE SPACE I SHALL HAVE! Monday.

Be sure to check back later for Sketch 13/365 sometime this evening. You can also  Subscribe to updates with your favorite RSS Reader, NetworkedBlogs, or with the Google Friend Connect options in the left-hand column.

Thanks for following me through this challenge!
